Nintendo WiiWare and Nintendo Channel Released in North America

Monday, May 12th, 2008

New content for the Wii is available. The Wii Shop channel was updated to separate the directories into Virtual Console (VC), WiiWare, and Wii Channel. The WiiWare section has a few launch titles, including the infamous Flash game, Defend Your Castle and the WiiWare-exclusive Final Fantasy Crystal Cronicles game.

Coming soon (hopefully) is the WiiWare title, Everyone’s Pokemon Ranch. It’s sorta like the Pokemon Box and Hey You Pikachu! games mixed with the Mii channel. You store up to 1000 pokemon (at 999 pokemon, you supposedly get a Mew) in the game, and can play with them in various ways. The more pokemon you have and objectives you’ve done, the more you’re able to do in the game. Here are some screenshots [from gamesradar].

The Nintendo channel is more-so a game preview channel. You can watch gameplay videos, trailers, and commentary on your favorite Wii and DS games, as well as be able to download game demos to your DS via the Wii to DS download service built in.

Smash Bros. Brawl May Experience Technical Difficulties

Monday, March 10th, 2008

On another note of this release, there’s so much content that the disc is dual-layer, and a tiny fraction of Wii consoles will be unable to read the disc at times. This is mainly due to failure of the laser reading lens to read all of the crammed data from the disc if there’s dirt, dust, or anything on the lens. If you have that problem, Nintendo will clean the laser reading head for free when you ship it to them.

To make up for this problem, Nintendo temporarily upgrading shipping to be much faster (both inbound and outbound), and the cost will be free for you. That way, you can get your console back in a short period of time.

The website for the form and announcement is right here.

And please - don’t go Rambo and try to clean the lens yourself, as you might further damage or break the console yourself.

Some new aspects to the game include the Smashville map. It’s a map with the Animal Crossing theme, and if you play a match on that map on Saturday at 8pm, you will see and hear a special treat from K.K. Slider as he does a live performance on stage!
