Smash Bros. Brawl May Experience Technical Difficulties

Monday, March 10th, 2008

On another note of this release, there’s so much content that the disc is dual-layer, and a tiny fraction of Wii consoles will be unable to read the disc at times. This is mainly due to failure of the laser reading lens to read all of the crammed data from the disc if there’s dirt, dust, or anything on the lens. If you have that problem, Nintendo will clean the laser reading head for free when you ship it to them.

To make up for this problem, Nintendo temporarily upgrading shipping to be much faster (both inbound and outbound), and the cost will be free for you. That way, you can get your console back in a short period of time.

The website for the form and announcement is right here.

And please - don’t go Rambo and try to clean the lens yourself, as you might further damage or break the console yourself.

Cyber Storm II is Just Around the Corner

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

Yes, even the government gets to play video games and get paid for it.

The Cyber War Games is an extremely high-tech extremely complex cyber security setup developed by the National Cyber Security Division of the Department of omeland Security. They’ve been working on it for more than a year and costing more than USD $6 Million.

The world-wide simulation will be used to test the skills of entrants, including the Department of Defence, FBI, CIA, CISCO, Microsoft, and many countries from around the world in an extremely securely-connected environment. The participants join one of the two groups, Planners, who set up the exercises, or Players, who participate in the events by trying to break into the simulation networks and obtain information.

There will be many traps along the way that will throw the players off the trail. The designers will be active throughout the week-long event, injecting into the system in attempt to thwart the contestants with situations unknown to the players.

This project / event is to help benchmark how well cyberterrorism and security interact, as well as to learn how to develop more-secure networks.

Dungeons and Dragons Co-Creator Dies At 69

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

It truly is a sad day for fans of role-playing games.

The man who co-created Dungeons & Dragons (the first Role-playing game ever made, created in 1974) is dead. Gary Gygax died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (not too far from Rockford, IL!). Apparently he had been having bad health issues for a few years.
